Lustrous, iridescent, and alluring pearls

Pearl jewellery is a ‘must-have’ in every jewellery collection. The exquisite pearlescent lustre, as well as the rarity value of natural pearls, justify its classification as a precious gem. We have an exciting collection of authentic designer pearl jewellery, sought after by discerning women who love the natural elegance and sophistication associated with these lustrous creations.

The sensual and exotic allure of pearl jewellery

A single strand or multiple rows of pearls around your neck or wrist immediately elevate your persona, no matter what the occasion. Pearl earrings with single pearls are perfect to complete a look, while earrings, rings, pendants, bracelets, and broaches in intricate designs embellished with pearls make perfect accessories when you want to present a glamorous look for a special occasion. And that's why we love pearls in jewellery!

Pearl wedding jewellery

Pearl wedding jewellery is a bride’s perfect choice, beautifully complementing traditional white, champagne, and ivory gowns. Pristine white, lustrous cream, or rosy-hued pearls are elegant, refined, and classic accessories for a wedding day. As well as symbolising purity, modesty, and chasteness, they have also come to represent good fortune, prosperity, and even fertility in some cultures.

Pearl jewellery sets

Pearl jewellery sets can effortlessly create a look in a matter of seconds from a designer collection. Our designer pearl jewellery collections feature pearl necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings, inspired by a common theme.

You can also easily put together a pearl wedding set from our pearl jewellery collections. These are perfect for bridal shopping and make perfect gift sets for the entire bridal party.

Pearl jewellery sets may be worn together as matching pieces but also work equally well paired with jewellery from across collections or with pieces from different designers. Diamonds and pearls are a classic combination, taking pearl jewellery sets to next level glamour.

How much does pearl jewellery cost?

The cost of pearl jewellery depends on the materials used in each piece. We have curated a range of pearl jewellery to appeal to all budgets. This ranges from smaller freshwater pearls and sterling silver pendant earrings at 350 DKK to large Tahitian black pearls and South Sea pearls set in 18 or 22 karat gold. Pearl jewellery which features other gemstones such as diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds will also attract a higher price. Among cultured pearls, South Sea Pearls are the most valuable.

Popular pearls used in authentic designer pearl jewellery

Real pearls are named based on their exotic places of origin. They may be natural or cultured. Natural pearls are extremely rare and not commercially viable. Pearls used in jewellery are usually cultured (created by human intervention to start off the process) and the most common types are Akoya, Tahitian, Southsea, and freshwater pearls.

These are available in a variety of colours, mostly white and cream, but they can also occur in gold, black, grey, and silver hues. Pearl jewellery also bears natural pearls in overtones such as pink and green and some even display an iridescent lustre called ‘orient’.

The shapes of pearls used in pearl jewellery can differ as well; they may be spherical or irregular in shape and are categorised as round, near-round, button, drop, and baroque pearls.

Black pearl jewellery with delectable Tahitian pearls

Black pearl jewellery is crafted using the spectacular Tahitian pearls from the coasts of Tahiti, and sometimes French Polynesia. The black-lipped Pinctada Margatifera is the only oyster species that creates the unique naturally dark-coloured Tahitian pearls, making them rare and highly valuable. Most "black" Tahitian pearls are not actually black but are instead silver, charcoal, or a multitude of colours with the dominant colour being green. Truly black pearls are among the most beautiful pearls in the world and are extremely rare.

The dramatic dark colours of Tahitian pearls are perfect for designer statement jewellery. Although not quite as large as the pastel-hued South Sea pearls, which average 15mm, they are nevertheless an impressive 13mm.

Freshwater pearl jewellery

Freshwater pearls are grown in freshwater mussels in a non-saline environment. Generally, freshwater pearls are not as round as saltwater pearls, and they do not have the same lustre and shine as saltwater pearls. As freshwater pearls are more common and varied in shape, with freshwater mussels producing more than one pearl at a time, they are often used in multiple strands and tend to be less expensive than saltwater pearls.

Akoya pearl jewellery

Cultured Akoya Pearls from the Japanese Pinctada Fucata oysters are the most abundant type of saltwater pearls on the market today. Due to the phenomenal consistency in their roundness and stunning gem quality, this classic pearl is often used by jewellery designers to create elegant pearl necklaces and earrings.

South Sea pearl jewellery

The beautiful South Sea pearls are much larger than other types of pearls, reaching up to 20mm in size, in a round, drop, and baroque shape. They are created by Silver and Gold-lipped South Sea saltwater oysters, which produce rich gold, champagne, silver, and aqua coloured pearls. They have the thickest nacre, making them more durable, which together with their magnificent size, shape, and rarity means South Sea pearls retain their value well and are a great jewellery investment.

Designer pearl jewellery is original, and each collection tells a story. Our handmade designer pearl jewellery collections are unique, beautifully conceptualised, and expertly crafted from certified authentic pearls. Our designers love the versatility of pearls, a classic gem that combines beautifully with other precious and semi-precious stones and beads.

What are real pearls and how can you tell?

Both natural and cultured pearls are real pearls. They are formed when an irritant enters the mollusc or oyster. The difference is that with natural pearls, this process takes place without any human intervention. Natural pearls are extremely rare and almost all pearls on the market today are cultured.

6 ways to tell if your pearls are real

The texture, shape, weight, colour, temperature and size of the drill holes in strung pearls are all clues as to whether your pearls are real.

• Natural and cultured pearls often have an overtone, a translucent colour that appears on the outer surface of a pearl.
• Real pearls differ from each other and are never identically shaped
• Real pearls are cold to touch for the first couple of seconds before warming up against your skin, while fake plastic pearls are room temperature.
• Real pearls are normally heavier than fake ones.
• The drill holes in real pearls are usually very small.

Pearls can be tested in a gemmological laboratory for a more conclusive result, but the simplest and safest way to ensure that you are buying real pearl jewellery is to buy verified authentic pearls from a reputable jeweller.
