Georg Jensen the brand was established in Copenhagen in 1904 by the master metal craftsman and sculptor. His brand exudes his innovative design philosophy that was instrumental in defining the character of twentieth-century Scandinavian Design.
“Do not follow fashion, but be guided by the present…” said Georg Jensen.
As an original thinker and designer, he categorically rejected the popular trends of his time; romantic and historicist ornamentation and ostentation. Instead, he embraced the avant-garde Art Nouveau style, establishing a clear focus on impeccable craftsmanship and clean aesthetics.
Over the ensuing decades, the standards and philosophy of Georg Jensen’s smithy attracted some of the greatest names in the design hall of fame. Iconic designers like Henning Koppel, Arne Jacobsen and Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe, Patricia Urquiola, Marc Newson and Zaha Hadid have successfully partnered with Georg Jensen to help push its boundaries, defy convention, and reimagine what design can be.
Exciting design collaborations continue to be the hallmark of this world-famous Danish brand, even after the death of Georg Jensen in 1935. Today, the Georg Jensen headquarters continues to reside in Copenhagen where the design studio and cultural heritage were established a hundred years ago.
