Carolinne B Jewelry: Creating wearable art - while never playing it safe

Carolinne B Jewelry is a Swedish fine jewellery brand founded by Carolinne Barholm — designer, goldsmith, and the maker behind every piece. Since founding the brand, Carolinne has built a distinct creative universe rooted in the natural world, translating animal symbolism and the raw poetry of nature into rings, bangles, and pendants. Every piece is crafted in silver and gold plating, with upcycled diamonds and gemstones sourced from auctions and pre-owned jewellery.

Carolinne B Jewelry draws its entire visual language from the animal kingdom and the wilderness. Alligators, wolves, lionesses, koi fish, bees, dragonflies — each creature chosen for its symbolic resonance rather than its decorative appeal. The process moves from sketch to CAD to moulding and casting, with Carolinne herself involved at every stage as both designer and smith. Collections are named and story-led — Love Bites, Up North, One Kiss Away — each one rooted in a specific idea rather than a seasonal brief. Some designs from 2014 remain in the collection today, a testament to the brand's commitment to timeless rather than trend-driven making.

Carolinne Barholm did not plan to become a jewellery designer. Nature and creativity led her there, and once she arrived, she brought the entire animal kingdom with her - her pieces include motifs of monkeys, lions, dragonflies and koi fish - to name a few.

The piece that started it all was the lioness bangle: powerful, symbolic, and still one of her most personal designs. "It's powerful, symbolic, and still one of my most personal pieces," she says. From that starting point, Carolinne has spent a decade building a brand that refuses to play it safe.

I spotted Carolinne B for the first time during my years as jewellery columnist for Denmark's leading magazines, and was drawn in immediately by a style unlike anything else — playful animals and insects, worked into fine, unexpected forms. From a distance, you would never guess what you're looking at; up close, it's monkeys, crocodiles, and other unlikely creatures. Jewellery doesn't have to be serious to earn its place, and the crocodiles and monkeys are particular favourites of mine.

Carolinne uses recycled silver and gold wherever possible and sources upcycled diamonds and gemstones from auctions and pre-owned jewellery — giving existing materials new life rather than extracting new ones.
