Timeless diamonds

Diamonds are rare gemstones, which form over a million years when carbon atoms are subjected to extreme temperature and pressure deep within the earth’s mantle.

Modern technology has overcome the hurdles of time and mining of diamonds through lab-created diamonds. These synthetically produced diamonds of identical chemical and physical properties are becoming very popular as they are sustainably produced and very affordable.

A diamond’s high refractive index, high dispersion, and adamantine lustre (sparkle), make it the world’s most expensive and desirable gemstone. For these reasons diamonds are preferred gemstones in engagement and wedding rings, as a symbol of fidelity and lifelong commitment.

Brilliant in white to rare red, blue and yellow

The quality and value of a diamond that has been faceted into a gem is based on four factors: colour, clarity, cut, and carat weight.

Diamond colour is measured using the GIA colour scale which goes from D (colourless) all the way to Z (light yellow or brown in colour). Up to J is considered near colourless, with K to M being only a faint yellow. In general, the colour grading of white diamonds ranges from colourless to a slight yellow tint. In jewelry, some of these hues are also called cognac (shades of brown) and champagne (pale yellowish hue) diamonds.

Distinctly coloured natural diamonds, such as blue, red, pink and yellow, are rare and highly valuable. Fancy coloured diamonds are measured on a different scale from faint to fancy vivid, fancy deep or fancy dark. This refers to the intensity of colour. In diamond jewelry, platinum and white gold are used to emphasise the fire and ice play of light through brilliant-cut white diamonds and rose and yellow gold are complementary settings.
