👑 The Royal Sparkle:

A Look into the Jewellery of King Charles' Coronation

On July 25, 2022, King Charles was officially crowned in a lavish ceremony at London’s Westminster Abbey. The royal coronation was marked by a display of exquisite and priceless jewellery worn by the royals and other prominent guests. Oh, all the breathtaking jewellery, glitter, and dazzling glamor which seemed transported straight out of a fairytale.

Let's take a closer look at the jewellery of King Charles' coronation, as well as the jewellery worn by the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, and Queen Camilla.

King Charles' Imperial State Crown:

A Symbol of British Monarchy

The moment we all have been waiting for arrived when the Archbishop of Canterbury placed the 360-year-old St. Edward’s Crown on Charles’ head. The spiritual leader of the Anglican Church then declared: “God Save the King.”

The Imperial State Crown is the most important symbol of the British monarchy, which represents the power and authority of the British sovereignty. Sparkling with nearly 3,000 stones King Charles’ crown weighs 2.3lbs (1.06kg). Not surprising, as a whopping 2,868 diamonds adorn the famous Imperial State Crown, including the famous Cullinan II diamond, also known as the Lesser Star of Africa, the largest diamond ever discovered. Additionally, the Imperial Crown is set with numerous other precious stones: 273 pearls, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds, and five rubies. So what is the price tag on the Imperial State Crown? Several experts have concluded that determining the value of the crown is an extremely difficult task, if not impossible.

Another part of King Charle’s coronation was the placing of a special ceremonial ring on the fourth finger of the monarch, representing that the sovereign is ‘wedded’ to the people.

The Duchess of Cambridge's Coronation Jewellery:

A Gift Fit for a Queen

Kate Middelton, The Duchess of Cambridge, paid tribute to two of the most famous and iconic female figures in the British monarchy's history: Queen Elizabeth II and Kate’s late mother-in-law Princess Diana!

Kate paid the ultimate tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in September 2022, by donning the famous George VI Festoon necklace, which was originally made for then-Princess Elizabeth in 1950 at the request of her father, King George VI.

Also the pearl-and-diamond earrings worn by Kate at Westminster Abbey held a very special significance in honor of a passed royal family member, as these exquisite earrings were originally owned by Princess Diana and were gifted to Kate as a wedding present from Prince William.

The Princess of Wales also caught our eyes with the unique headpiece designed by Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen. The sparkling silver design wrapped around the future queen’s head like a tiara and showed an intricate design of leaves, paying homage to King Charles' passion for nature and the environment.

Queen Camilla's Crown:

A Diamond-Studded Masterpiece

Queen Camilla wore a sparkling crown made by Garrard for Queen Mary, who was also a Queen Consort and was crowned alongside King George V in 1911. Queen Camilla’s crown showed a silver frame, lined with gold, and sparkles with nearly 2000 diamonds in a brilliant-cut, and some rose-cut.

Queen Camilla furthermore wore a breathtaking piece of jewellery known as the Coronation Necklace which was previously worn by Camilla’s late mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II at her Coronation, as well as by Queen Mary before her and Queen Alexandra. The necklace displays 25 cushion diamonds and a 22-carat diamond pendant at the center, as per the Royal Collection Trust.
