Rouvenat: With history like no other

Maison Rouvenat has a history that spans nearly two centuries - with a gap of over 100 years in the middle. The Parisian house was first founded around 1850 by Léon Rouvenat, and it was one of the most prominent jewelry houses of its era, adorning the European elite with diadems, transformable medallions, and rosette brooches. But with no successor, the house closed shortly before World War I.
Over 100 years later, 3,000 of Léon’s original drawings were discovered in a Parisian antique dealer, all in perfect condition gathered in 12 leather-bound notebooks.
It was not until 2022 that it finally opened its doors again - all because of the sudden discovery of 3,000 of Léon’s original drawings, in a Parisian antique dealer. This prompted the re-opening of Maison Rouvenat, and today the brand operates under creative director Sandrine de Laage, with co-founder Marie Berthelon bringing 20 years of senior fine jewelry experience across Hermès, Cartier, and De Beers.

Léon Rouvenat was a pioneer, exhibiting in London and Paris, winning multiple awards, and building a house that dressed the European elite at its height. When he died without a successor, the house closed, and its archive might have disappeared entirely. Instead, 3,000 gouache drawings survived in perfect condition inside 12 leather-bound notebooks, waiting over a century to be discovered. When they were found at a Parisian antique dealer in 2022, co-founder Marie Berthelon, whose career had taken her through senior positions at Hermès, Cartier, and De Beers, saw the opportunity to bring the house back. Marie also brings a deep commitment to female empowerment: during her decade at Cartier she was a key figure in the Cartier Women's Initiative, coaching young female entrepreneurs. Maison Rouvenat was among the first companies to join the Communauté des Entreprises à Mission- the French association uniting companies committed to driving meaningful change.
