DARKAI: Goldsmith heritage reimagined for a new generation

DARKAI is an Italian fine jewelry brand founded in 2020 by brothers Lelio and Giacomo Zoccai — fifth-generation goldsmiths from Vicenza, a city with one of the deepest goldsmithing traditions in the world. The brand works in rhodium-plated silver, gold-plated silver, and solid gold, set with moissanite stones, and produces its pieces by hand in the Zoccai family atelier. Genderless, bold, and built for self-expression, DARKAI applies a 180-year goldsmithing legacy to a design language that is entirely of the moment.

DARKAI's aesthetic draws from urban culture, music, art, and youth-led movements — translated into handcrafted jewelry with fine artisanal finishing, hand-set stones, and designs that make a statement without trying too hard. The name itself comes from the Hip-Hop concept of "dark eyes" — wearing black — fused with the family name Zoccai, and that duality runs through every collection: heritage craft meeting disruptive design, classic forms reimagined with a subversive edge. Tennis bracelets, Cuban chains, cross pendants, and the famously lifelike Gemmy Bears collection — each piece finished to a standard that reflects five generations of goldsmithing knowledge, designed for a generation that plays by its own rules.

Lelio and Giacomo Zoccai grew up discussing diamonds and gold over Sunday dinner — their grandparents' family atelier was as much a part of their childhood as school. When they founded DARKAI in 2020, they made a deliberate choice: to take that 180-year goldsmithing legacy and do something genuinely new with it. Lelio, the introverted creative director with a background in marketing and economics, knows exactly what he wants to design. Giacomo, the outgoing financial mind, brings the commercial rigour to make it viable. Together they complement each other — and the brand they have built reflects that dynamic: precise and instinctive, disciplined and free. "Making the choice to go their own way — finding the courage to do their own thing, not compromising on their long-term vision" — that, they say, has been the hardest and most important part of the journey.

All DARKAI jewelry is handcrafted from recycled gold and sustainably mined stones in the Zoccai family atelier in Vicenza. The brand uses low-environmental-impact production methods throughout, and its packaging is made from locally produced recycled paper or uses paperless alternatives where possible.
