Carré Jewelry: Where gemstones are the starting point, always

Carré Jewelry is a Copenhagen fine jewelry brand founded in 1994 by Shiri Rosenzweig, a diamond graduate and gemstone specialist born in Tel Aviv to a Danish mother and Israeli father. Since 1991, Shiri has worked with over 900 different types of gemstones — sourced from India, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Madagascar, Thailand, and across the African continent — and that extraordinary depth of gemstone knowledge sits at the heart of everything Carré makes. The brand is based in the heart of Copenhagen's old city, where its flagship store functions as both jewelry destination and cabinet of curiosities, filled with the stones, objects, and finds Shiri brings back from markets and travels around the world.

Carré's design language is built entirely around colour - the extraordinary variety of gemstones that Shiri has spent over three decades collecting, combining, and setting in gold and silver. Emeralds, pink opals, red garnets, blue amazonites, golden pearls — stones chosen for their individual character and combined for the chromatic magic they create when placed alongside one another. Stones are cut in facets or cabochon depending on their structure, density, and colour, with each cutting decision made to bring out the fullest expression of the individual stone. The Marisa and Atelier collections are produced in smaller series, handcrafted in the Copenhagen workshop with recycled gemstones from Shiri's personal archive - pieces that carry the history of the stones themselves as well as the jewelry they will become. Each piece is crafted in 10K gold.

Shiri Rosenzweig received her diamond graduation certificate in 1991 and quickly found her world expanding beyond diamonds into pearls, gemstones, and a fascination with colour and combination that has never left her. In 1994, she opened the first Carré store in Copenhagen - a space that has always been as much about curiosity and discovery as it is about jewelry. Over the years, the brand has developed a creative partnership with artist Marie Rud Rosenzweig, whose playful visual universe has shaped Carré's identity in a meaningful way: through collages that adorn the brand's jewelry boxes and gift bags, hand-painted stripes in the Copenhagen store, and most recently a limited sculpture commissioned in 30 numbered and individually decorated editions. The greeting that guides the brand daily comes from the East: Namaste — "the light in me sees the light in you" — a reminder of where so much of Carré's inspiration, colour, and values are rooted.

Gemstones remind me of the feeling you get when you walk into an old-fashioned Parisian sweet shop. Golden pearls, emeralds as green as grass, red garnets, pink opals, and blue amazonites — they tempt like a colourful bowl of sweets.

Carré existed long before we entered the jewelry world. I first featured Siri's pieces years earlier, as a regular jewelry voice on Danish television, talking through the season's trends — which tells you how long she's been in the industry. Trends come and go, but she's never wavered from her real passion: coloured, unusual gemstones, never the obvious ones, set in her signature rings and finished with tiny gold details. She keeps thousands of stones in her own archive, proof of just how deep that passion runs. Danish design at its best — there was never any question Carré belonged in our Room.

Carré creates a significant part of its jewelry in its Copenhagen workshop using recycled gemstones from Shiri's personal archive — stones collected over decades that retain their quality and can be reset into entirely new pieces. Gold and silver from older pieces can be melted down and reused, with gemstones reset to give heirloom jewelry a new and meaningful life. The brand's approach to gemstone reuse is both a practical and philosophical commitment: stones formed over millions of years under intense pressure deserve to outlast any single piece of jewelry.
