Josephine Studio: Channeling empress energy

JOSEPHINE is a contemporary fine jewelry brand founded in Oslo in 2022 by friends Camilla and Sarah. Named after and inspired by Empress Joséphine Bonaparte - a woman who defied convention as both an empress and an individual, living without compromise - the brand creates solid, comfortable jewelry designed for daily wear and built to last a lifetime. Every design is created in-house in Oslo, drawn in 3D, 3D-printed for user testing, and revised before production. The result is jewelry that feels almost weightless on the body, regardless of how substantial it is in character.

The opening edit

Camilla brought us her JOSEPHINE Studio collection herself. The gold-and-silver mixed pieces, edgy yet clean, are among our customers' favourites.

JOSEPHINE works in silver and gold — materials whose character unfolds uniquely over time, with every line and scratch telling the story of a life well lived. The brand's core collections, Rose and Thorn, draw directly from Empress Joséphine Bonaparte's life and passions: her deep affection for roses, the garden she built at Château de Malmaison while Napoleon was away, and the symbolic resonance of a flower whose beauty is inseparable from its thorns. The design process is rigorous and industrial - everything drawn in 3D, 3D-printed, tested on the body, and revised until the piece feels right. JOSEPHINE does not release new work on a seasonal schedule, but when the founders have a fresh idea they want to bring to life.

Camilla and Sarah founded JOSEPHINE in Oslo in 2022 with a clear ambition: to build a brand and a workplace where quality and authenticity are central, and where the pace of creation is set by genuine ideas rather than industry pressure. Their inspiration is Empress Joséphine Bonaparte — born Rose, renamed Joséphine by Napoleon, and known throughout her life for a rebellious spirit that defied the expectations placed on her. The JOSEPHINE they have built shares that character: rebellious, sensitive, effortless, quirky, and deeply relatable. The brand's philosophy of longevity is not a marketing position but a genuine conviction — that an item well-made enough to be desired for years is more valuable, and more sustainable, than anything designed to be replaced.

Camilla came to us herself to show her collection for JOSEPHINE Studio, and we saw the potential immediately — a universe where edgy and clean meet in equal measure. The pieces that mix gold and silver are especially popular with our customers, and it's easy to see why.

JOSEPHINE's approach to sustainability is rooted in longevity rather than certification. The brand's position is that an item made well enough to be used and desired for a lifetime is inherently more sustainable than one designed for frequent replacement. New designs are created when the founders have genuine ideas to pursue — not in response to seasonal industry demands. The brand also aims to normalise the idea that desiring something over time, and making a considered purchasing decision, is a positive rather than a limitation.
