Métier by tomfoolery: Rooted in slow jewelry practices

Métier by Tomfoolery is a London fine jewelry brand founded in 2015 by Laura Kay - director of Tomfoolery, her parents' renowned London jewelry gallery, where she grew up working and developed an intimate understanding of independent jewelry design.
The brand was conceived on that same shop floor: an accessible, solid gold collection designed for everyday wear, self-styling, and genuine longevity. Proudly female-founded and independently owned, Métier is crafted in 9ct and 14ct gold, handmade in workshops in both the UK and India.

The opening edit

Métier was part of our CPHFW showroom for years before we finally worked together. Real, affordable 9k gold, and that's why they're in our Room.

Métier works in 9ct and 14ct solid gold, chosen for durability, wearability, and an accessible price point that makes the collection genuinely everyday rather than aspirational. The 9ct gold uses a silver alloy rather than nickel, ensuring the pieces can be cleaned, repaired, and worn for years. Gemstones and diamonds are responsibly sourced, with diamonds supplied by workshops adhering to the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme.

The aesthetic is versatile and self-expressive, pieces designed to work seamlessly with contemporary or vintage jewelry, or to stand as a complete collection in their own right. Laura draws inspiration from art and gemstone colour combinations, approaching each collection as a form of creative translation. The Moonstone Astra Journey Pendant, from the Astra Collection inspired by gypsy star settings, is Laura's personal must-have, a piece she describes as carrying guidance, wanderlust, and individuality in equal measure.

Laura Kay grew up at Tomfoolery - her parents' London jewelry gallery - where years spent on the shop floor gave her an education in independent jewelry design that no formal training could replicate. Métier was the idea that grew from that experience: a solid gold collection that could sit quietly on the body, hold its quality, and be worn every day without ceremony.

Launched in 2015, the brand has grown organically, showing regularly in New York, Paris, Japan, Las Vegas, and Scandinavia, always with the same unhurried conviction that the best jewelry earns its place in a collection over time rather than demanding attention immediately.

The workshops are registered with the Responsible Jewelry Council, and the brand maintains strong, fair relationships with its making partners in the UK and India

Laura KayFounder & Designer

Métier was part of our Copenhagen Fashion Week showroom for years — though it took until 2025 for us to actually work together on the platform. What convinced us was their 9k gold concept: real jewelry, at a genuinely lower price, with a fashionable, cool take that felt entirely their own. Raw, cool, and always growing — that's why they're in our Room.

Métier's ethos is rooted in slow jewelry: solid recycled gold that can be repaired or recycled, designed to last rather than be replaced. The brand's workshops are registered with the Responsible Jewelry Council. Gemstones and diamonds are responsibly sourced, with diamonds supplied by workshops adhering to the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme. Métier deliberately avoids marketing itself as a sustainable brand, instead focusing on the transparency of its supply chain and ensuring fair working conditions, fair pay, and good working environments throughout. Base metal gold plating is rejected entirely — every piece is solid gold.
