Maria Black fell into jewelry making while living in Ibiza around 2003, and graduated as a goldsmith in 2009 before moving to London and starting to sell at Sunday Upmarket in East London. From there, stores discovered the work and agents approached her, and the brand grew,  organically and at pace,  built entirely on Maria's skills, creative vision, and willingness to learn everything else on the go.

When she launched in 2010, there were no mid-range jewelry brands operating in the fashion market with precious metals and a genuinely gender-inclusive point of view. Dressing men in pearl jewelry was unheard of. Dressing women in bold, sharp power jewelry was a statement. Both were simply what felt right to Maria and her team. The brand has evolved considerably since, and continues to do so deliberately, stopping every few years to examine what still feels true.
