Practical Magic 2, the long-awaited sequel to the 1998 original, is finally out. I loved the first film, so I've been looking forward to this one for a long time, and the closer we got to today, the more excited I became. Long before I could see a single scene for myself, something else caught my attention in the trailers and stills: the jewelry that Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are wearing.

Nicole Kidman's Jewelry in Practical Magic 2
Nicole Kidman wears two very significant rings from Josephine Bergsøe's Seafire family throughout the film, alongside a pair of Magic Wheel earrings. Here is exactly what she has on, piece by piece.
The Seafire Rings on Nicole Kidman
The most significant ring you’ll see on Nicole Kidmans middlefinger is the Seafire ring made in silver and gold. The metals are mixed together and combines silver with 18k, 22k and 24k gold and a three beautiful handpicked gemstones; a large green cabochon grossolar, a pear shaped ruby, and a champagne brilliant-cut diamond. The other ring ( also from the seafire family) she’s wearing throughout the movie, primarily on her index finger has as similar irregular and curvy shape, but with a much quiter look to it. This seafire ring is made in silver and gold set with a single 0.06 ct champagne brilliant-cut diamond.

Joey King and the Memento Mori Necklace
Of everyone in Practical Magic 2, Joey King, who plays Kylie Owens, Sandra Bullocks eldest daughter wears the piece with the most history behind it: the Memento Mori necklace. This piece has been part of Josephine Bergsøe's design universe for years, originally created in hand-carved coral, but this special edition for the film is made in a completely dark version, in carved bog oak with gold and two champagne brilliant-cut diamonds, it furthermore has a beautiful baroque South Sea pearl attached to it.
What Memento Mori Means
Memento mori, remember you must die, is one of the oldest ideas in art. Since antiquity, the skull has stood for life's impermanence. During the Renaissance and Baroque periods, it appeared again and again as a quiet reminder that time passes, and that living with awareness of that matters more than avoiding the thought of it.
Josephine Bergsøe's Memento Mori
For Josephine, the skull carries that same duality. It is raw and poetic at once, an honest form without hierarchy or status. Beneath the surface, we are all the same. She made her first skull piece thirty years ago: a hand-carved coral skull surrounded by pearls and brilliant-cut diamonds. Practical Magic 2 is not the first time Josephine Bergsøe's jewelry has found its way onto a screen.
