Meet ABOY: Carrying legacy forward with commitment
During her childhood, Paloma Aboy spent a lot of time in her grandfather’s jewelry studio. It was through watching him design and construct jewelry, observing the patience and passion required, that the love of making jewelry was first planted in her - the love that years later would result in the launch of her very own brand, ABOY.
And Paloma founded it with a clear sense of what she was carrying forward.
"I strive to carry forward his legacy," she says, "remembering what he taught me — that true mastery lies not just in technical skill, but in the ability to infuse our creations with the very essence of our souls."
Today, ABOY crafts all their pieces in Spain in close collaboration with skilled artisans, using only 18K fairmined gold and GIA certified, conflict free diamonds. Paloma’s commitment to slow and artisanal craftsmanship is genuine and the very foundation of the brand, that we are so pleased to have available in The Jewellery Room.
We sat down with Paloma to ask all our questions about the legacy and heritage she carries into her brand, and what is next.
You grew up watching your grandfather work. What did that teach you?
"I was exposed to design from an early age through my family business. I grew up watching my grandfather design and construct jewelry in his studio with great passion and a very personal approach to the art of jewelry making. Here it was where my deep appreciation for handmade craftsmanship was nurtured and plays an integral part of my identity."
Where does a piece begin for you?
"What I love most in the jewelry creation process is how the unknown will reveal itself throughout the process."
How would you describe what you are trying to achieve with each design?
"Effortless. I guess what I want to achieve with my pieces is a natural extension of the wearer. The people I create these pieces for have an understanding of a lot of the unspoken in the world. That's not to isolate anybody — it's to embrace so much of the unsaid in such a noisy and loud world that we live in."
"What I love most in the jewelry creation process is how the unknown will reveal itself throughout the process."
Why Fairmined gold, and why does it matter?
"Sustainability starts by making conscious decisions to create products that last a long time, both in their craftsmanship and design. We firmly believe in selecting rather than accumulating, slowing down the pace of consumption and working towards building a collection of jewels that transcends seasons with the aim to be passed down from generation to generation."
Is there a piece from your own collection that feels most personal?
"The Cosmic Landscape Ring."
Who do you design for?
"My typical customers are lovers of imperfect beauty, with social and environmental concerns. They look for treasures, unique and authentic pieces, where aesthetic and cultural value come together."
What does jewelry mean to the person wearing it?
"Aboy is an independent artisanal fine jewelry brand offering jewelry pieces of uncompromising quality and timeless elegance with the aim to be passed down from generation to generation."
What's next for the brand?
"I am working on a new line of home objects, hoping to launch them towards the end of the year."
Paloma Aboy founded ABOY to carry something forward: her grandfather's conviction that true craftsmanship lives in the soul of a piece, not just its technical execution.
Every design is handcrafted in Spain in 18k Fairmined gold, with 1% of yearly sales donated to non-profit organisations aligned with the brand's values. We are proud to have her with us. Discover the full ABOY collection here.
