NORDENSTAM: The calling that persevered

Carina Nordenstam, founder of NORDENSTAM, has crafted every piece herself, by hand, from the very start. Now based in Copenhagen, the path to goldsmithing begun in a high school art class with a tin-casting exercise that sparked an immediate conviction: this was her calling.
This conviction carried her through even when her academic advisor tried to redirect her towards dental technology, citing the lack of money in goldsmithing - Carina followed her creative instinct instead, and it still guides her to this day - using gold, silver and gemstones such as raw sapphires.

Nordenstam works in solid 14k gold (stamped 585N), solid 8k gold (stamped 333N or NN), and 925 sterling silver — each piece carrying Carina's registered N stamp, which has been verified by Force Technology in Denmark since 2010, guaranteeing that the material is genuine and holds its stated purity. Raw sapphires play a prominent role in the Glow ring collection, chosen for the distinct energy and uplifting quality of their colour. Vintage and recycled diamonds feature throughout, including Salt & Pepper brilliants and natural green and grey brilliants — stones with a specific character that Carina selects individually. The lucky amulets from the Nature collection are among the brand's most personal pieces - each one unique in form, each one taking on its own meaning for the person who wears it.

Carina Nordenstam has been a goldsmith since she followed a spark ignited in a high school art class - a tin-casting exercise that gave her a sense of deep joy she recognised immediately as a calling. She pursued goldsmithing despite being advised against it, and has built Nordenstam into a practice defined entirely by her own hands and her own creative convictions. Every piece is made by Carina herself in Copenhagen, at a scale and intimacy that is rare in contemporary fine jewellery. The work is the result of a designer who has never compromised her creative instinct for commercial expediency — and whose jewellery carries that conviction in every detail.

Nordenstam is produced in a limited number of pieces to eliminate overproduction, and Carina makes every piece herself from scratch in Copenhagen. Customers can bring their old gold and silver jewellery to be melted down and remade into new Nordenstam pieces - a practice Carina actively encourages and deeply respects as a reflection of the responsibility we all share for the world we live in. Diamonds can also be recycled in the same way. The brand sells a curated selection of vintage diamonds - recycled and upcycled stones cut from larger damaged diamonds, giving each stone a new life. The N stamp on every Nordenstam piece is registered with Force Technology in Denmark, independently verified annually, and guarantees the purity and carat of every metal used.
