KINRADEN: Built on community, curiosity and rigour

KINRADEN was a dream long before Sarah Emilie Müllertz - an architect trained at the Royal Danish Academy, former Partner and Global Head of Design at Henning Larsen Architects,designed her first jewellery piece. But when she finally founded KINRADEN, she approached her design process with the same rigour she brought to buildings.
From the start, the brand has been inspired by making people come together - the name KINRADEN is derived kinship - and today, the KINRADEN community is strong both locally and internationally. Still based in central Copenhagen, Sarah designs pieces handcrafted in recycled 18k gold and sterling silver, with the brand's signature mpingo, a near-black African hardwood sourced from a WWF-protected forest in Tanzania.

We fell for Kinraden's story the moment it debuted with us, during Fashion Week 2014. We still adore Sarah Müllertz's designs and sustainability ethos just as much today.

KINRADEN works in three materials only: solid recycled 18k gold, solid recycled sterling silver, and mpingo - a dense, near-black hardwood traditionally used in the making of classical clarinets, prized for its hardness, durability, and resonance. Sourced from a WWF-protected forest in Tanzania, mpingo was chosen as a responsible and aesthetically precise alternative to conventional diamonds, and it becomes more beautiful against the skin over time. Each piece is the result of a design process that begins with a fundamental investigation of body, material, and function - arriving at the simplest and most powerful poetic expression possible. The aesthetic is one of precise restraint: minimalist in structure, sculptural in presence, and rooted in the belief that what is left out is as important as what remains.

Sarah Emilie Müllertz has been a collector of art since her teenage years, drawing on references from modern art, Japanese architecture, and Danish design tradition in equal measure. Before founding KINRADEN, she ran her own architecture studio before becoming Partner and Global Head of Design at Henning Larsen Architects, leading international teams on projects defined by clarity, structure, and contextual understanding.

That background is legible in every KINRADEN piece, the same discipline applied to a different scale. The brand's name comes from the Old English word for kindred: the understanding that all living things on earth are related, and that everything we touch will in some way touch others. "In the end, we are nothing without each other," Sarah says. Responsible materials and recycled precious metals have been part of KINRADEN from the very beginning — not a position adopted later, but the foundation the brand was built on.

Curiosity is not merely a strength, but something we have a responsibility to preserve — even as adults.

Our story with Kinraden goes back further than most of the designers we carry. Kinraden launched with us in 2014, at one of our physical Jewellery Rooms during Copenhagen Fashion Week, its very first public viewing anywhere. Sarah Müllertz trained as an architect before turning to jewellery, and that structural eye runs through everything she makes: recycled silver and gold, her signature Mpingo wood, and new sapphire designs well worth a closer look.

Every KINRADEN piece is handcrafted in solid recycled 18k gold and recycled sterling silver, with production certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council. Mpingo is sourced from a WWF-protected forest in Tanzania. The brand is committed to circular and sustainable processes, fair and transparent trade relationships, and supporting organisations including WWF. KINRADEN's founding philosophy — that all living things are kindred, and that every action touches others — is not a marketing position but the reason the brand exists.
