It's official - the brooch is back!

The brooch has never been more popular than it is right now. Over the last few years, it’s been rising and rising in popularity - but while a lot of jewellery trends start with fashionable women, this one was just as much led by the most fashion-forward men of the world.

Back in March of 2026, the brooches completely stole the show at the Oscar’s: actors such as Adrien Brody, Pedro Pascal, Leonardo Dicaprio, and ‘Best Male Actor’-winner Michael B Jordan, all posed for the cameras with dazzling brooches pinned to their suits.

Let’s dive into the history of this beloved - and slightly forgotten, kind of jewellery.

The History of the Brooch

The brooch is one of the oldest types of of jewellery there is, and has evolved over thousands of years into what it is today. All the way back in the Bronze age, it was mostly a practical invention: people would use a pin to hold their cloaks in place - and as they started having motifs, they were most commonly religious symbols.

For the vikings and celtics, a brooch was worn on the shoulder or chest to signal rank, wealth or status - and often made by skilled iron craftsmen. Finer metals were also introduced here: the very wealthiest would wear brooches and pins made from silver or gold.

Fast forward to the renaissance, when new tailoring techniques reduced the need for brooches to hold fabric - instead, brooches became decorative ,crafted with the artistic expression that was in fashion at the time, using precious metals and gemstones. Beautiful brooches became status symbols of the wealthy, signalling sophistication and taste.

In more modern time, movements of the 19th and 20th reshaped how the brooch looked. During the days of Art Noveau in the late 1800’s and early 1910’s, brooch designs were intricate and detailed, often colourful - like the brooch designed by French jeweller Henry Vever in 1900 (today used as inspiration for the new generation of the Vever family).

The Art Deco movement that came after redefined the way brooches were designed again: now the brooch designs were more architectural and geometric.

In the later half of the 1900’s and the early 2000’s, the brooch has slowly but surely gone out of fashion. Filling neither a functional nor a fashionable function, it has for long been deemed a form of jewellery of the past: something your great-grandmother left behind, now collecting dust in a box somewhere in the attic.

But during 2026, that changed. It is safe to say it: the brooch is - and we could not be happier about it!

How to use your brooch for styling

On the streets of our hometown of Copenhagen, we have seen brooches everywhere lately - and as usual, the Copenhagen girls and boys are showing off the most creative ways to style a look.

Lately, we have been seeing brooches everywhere on the streets of Copenhagen - and there’s plenty of creative ways to do it - a brooch can be used to create interesting shape, to sit on your jacket as a way of adding a something a little extra, or to keep your scarf in place when cycling through the city on a windy autumn day.

In Hollywood, it’s not just the men who have adopted the trend - for example, we adore Margaret Qualley’s way of styling a brooch on the brim of her oversized sunhat - proving that the options really are endless.
