Kinz Kanaan: Treasures of two worlds

Kinz Kanaan is a Danish fine jewellery brand founded by designer Maysoun Kanaan. The name holds two layers of meaning: Kinz means treasure or treasure chest in Arabic, while Kanaan traces back to the ancient land of Canaan - a region historically celebrated for its skilled craftsmanship and artistic expression, and the root of Maysoun's Palestinian heritage. Every piece is crafted in 925 sterling silver and 14k gold plating, with some unique pieces handmade in Copenhagen by recognised goldsmiths. The collection is produced in Thailand with a carefully selected partner committed to fair working conditions.

Indledningen

Maysoun and I worked together years ago, long before Kinz Kanaan. I was obsessed from first sight with her mix of Eastern mystique and Scandi coolness.

Kinz Kanaan works in 925 sterling silver and 14k gold plating, with Swarovski crystal pearls used throughout in place of industrially harvested alternatives. The design language moves between two distinct visual traditions, the intricate geometry, calligraphy, and ornamental richness of Middle Eastern craft heritage, and the clean, minimalist restraint of Scandinavian design. The result is jewellery that Maysoun describes as a romance between classical and contemporary forms: warm and symbolic in reference, precise and elegant in execution. Inspiration comes from botanical patterns, Arabic ornament, and the symmetrical logic of calligraphy - all reframed into handcrafted pieces that carry a distinctly Kanaan signature.

Maysoun Kanaan grew up between two worlds — her Palestinian heritage and her Danish upbringing — and Kinz Kanaan is the creative expression of that dual identity. The brand was conceived as a timeless treasure chest: a body of work that reflects her journey as both a person and an artist, drawing on geometrical concepts, a deep love of calligraphy, and the Arabic ornamental tradition to shape something that belongs equally to the past and the present. "In a globalised world like ours, with wonderful people of all ethical and social backgrounds coming together," she says, "brands like Kinz Kanaan form a fusion between cultures, design aesthetics and lastly all of us, human beings."

I experience jewellery as a visible and tangible reminder of our outer and inner strength, as we carry it close to us at all times.

Maysoun and I worked together years ago at a jewellery company, back when our shared obsession with jewellery was already a little wild. I went on to become a jewellery columnist, while Maysoun built Kinz Kanaan — a genuinely beautiful universe where Eastern mystique meets Scandi coolness. I was obsessed from the very first look.
