ENNUI Atelier: Everything but boring

Ennui Atelier is a fine jewellery brand founded by Sophie Antonsson and based in Stockholm. The name — ennui, meaning boredom in French — is deliberate: the brand was built as a reaction to repetition, and to the idea that getting dressed or choosing jewellery can easily become routine. Ennui Atelier makes pieces in sterling silver and 9k, 14k, and 18k gold, designed to interrupt that feeling in a subtle way and to be worn, combined, and returned to over time.

Ennui Atelier’s pieces are designed for everyday life, and to be worn again and again, throughout life. A guiding principle of the design process is how the piece will look and change with the wearer over time - it’s designed to be worn often and become a part of how you express yourself.

Sophie Antonsson never planned on becoming a jewellery designer. But as a fashion student in London, she started feeling an almost intuitive pull towards objects that last - jewellery specifically.

And with that, ENNUI Atelier was born. Now based in Stockholm, Sweden, Sophie designs jewellery pieces from that very first intuition, with a strong focus on longevity - but also with the intention of interrupting the every-day repetition of getting dressed. The starting point of all of her designs remains the same: creating jewellery that is never just decorative, but that holds emotion: that makes you want to return to them and wear them over time.

I like the moment when the piece leaves the studio. When someone else wears, it in their own way. That is when it becomes something more personal, and often more interesting than what I originally imagined.
