Kay Bojesen was born in Copenhagen in 1886 and trained as a silversmith under Georg Jensen from 1907, before travelling through Germany and Paris to develop his craft further.
He returned to Copenhagen in 1913 to open his own workshop in Nybrogade — the basement space across from Thorvaldsens Museum that became the starting point for one of Denmark's most enduring design legacies. His Grand Prix cutlery, presented at the Milan Triennale in 1951, won the exhibition's highest prize and is now found in Danish embassy residences worldwide.
The iconic monkey, also from 1951, was created as a coat rack for a children's furniture exhibition and became a design icon within its first month, with 600 sold from Bojesen's own shop alone. Today, his youngest grandchild Sus Bojesen Rosenqvist leads the company, diving into the silver archive and introducing new pieces without compromising the original character of her grandfather's work.
