Clarissa Gioielli: The Heart of Tuscany

Clarissa Gioielli is a Tuscan fine jewellery brand founded in Pontedera in 2014, built on the goldsmithing heritage that dates back to Giovanni Zucchelli's original workshop established in 1963. Today the brand is led by the Zucchelli family's second and third generation — Alessandro, Elena, and their niece Letizia — who together continue a tradition of entirely handcrafted jewellery made in their Tuscan atelier. Every piece is crafted in 18k gold with carefully selected natural diamonds and precious gemstones, produced in-house from first sketch to finished jewel.

Clarissa Gioielli's aesthetic is playful and built around colourful gemstones, using exclusively 18K gold. . Every piece begins as a freehand sketch, which is then realised as a gold prototype in the atelier before the final piece is made. The production process is as considered as the design itself: wax casting using the lost-wax technique, centrifugal gold pouring, hand assembly, soldering, stone setting, polishing, and a final ultrasonic bath and rhodium finish. Natural diamonds and precious gemstones - including multicoloured sapphires, emeralds, and rubies - are individually selected for their quality and set by hand to bring out the full brilliance of each stone.

The story of Clarissa Gioielli begins not in 2014 but in 1963, when Giovanni Zucchelli founded a goldsmith workshop in Pontedera — the Tuscan city known as the birthplace of the Vespa. Over six decades, the workshop passed to his children Alessandro and Elena, and then to the next generation including their niece Letizia, each bringing their own expertise while maintaining the founding commitment to handcrafted quality. The Clarissa Gioielli brand was established in 2014 to give that heritage a contemporary identity — a name and a vision that could carry the family's craft into a new era. New collections launch twice a year at Milano Fashion & Jewels in February and September, where the brand presents to both new and longstanding clients.

I walked past Clarissa Gioielli's stand on a trip to a trade fair in Milan — we didn't share a language, her Italian to my English, but jewellery turned out to be a language of its own. It was the engagement rings, and the delicate rings set with coloured stones, that I fell for completely. I wanted them on our platform, full stop, and luckily Clarissa was open to the idea.
