Origins and Foundations

Métier by Tomfoolery is a London fine jewellery brand with roots that run deeper than most. Founder Laura Kay grew up working at Tomfoolery, her parents' jewellery gallery — and it is that early, intimate education in the world of independent design that shaped everything Métier would become. For Laura, jewellery has always been personal. The brand she built reflects that: considered, self-expressive, and unmistakably informed by London.

"There's a distinct London influence in everything we create," Laura explains — and it shows. Métier occupies a particular space in contemporary fine jewellery: timeless and elegant, but with a contemporary edge that keeps each collection from feeling safe or predictable. Laura draws her inspiration from art, and particularly from the possibilities of gemstone colour combinations and shapes. "It's a form of escapism from a busy life," she says of the design process. "I love translating ideas into collections."

Crafted with Purpose

All Métier pieces are crafted in solid gold using recycled metals, and the brand's workshops are registered with the Responsible Jewellery Council. Gemstones and diamonds are responsibly sourced throughout — a commitment to slow jewellery that runs through every design decision. Pieces are made to last, and can be repaired or recycled when they need to be. New collections arrive a few times a year, with Métier regularly showing in New York and Paris, as well as Japan, Las Vegas, and Scandinavia. These are not trend-driven drops — they are considered additions to a collection built to endure.

Laura's personal must-have is the Moonstone Astra Journey Pendant, from the Astra Collection — a series inspired by gypsy star settings and what they symbolise: guidance, wanderlust, and individuality. "I love both wearing it and its meaning," she says. It is a piece that captures something central to the brand: jewellery that carries an idea, not just an aesthetic.

"The essence of Métier's success lies in its versatility and timeless charm. Each piece is meticulously crafted for self-styling, customisation and everyday wear." - Laura Kay, Founder & Designer

Why Métier Stands Apart

The Métier customer is a self-purchaser. Confident, eclectic, and building a collection that is distinctly her own — she comes to Métier for pieces that feel both personal and lasting. That is exactly what the brand is designed to deliver. Each design is crafted with what Laura describes as a distinctive look, feel, and weight: "jewellery that feels both special and personal."

That intentionality is why we love Métier. It is a brand that understands what solid gold everyday jewellery should do — sit quietly on the body, hold its quality, and mean something. In a market full of noise, Métier by Tomfoolery makes a case for the considered piece. For jewellery that earns its place in a collection, and stays there.
