You started off in fashion - what was it that drew you to jewellery, and made you jump ship?
"It happened quite intuitively. I started in fashion in London, but I was always more drawn to objects that felt lasting. Jewellery stayed with me in a different way. It is closer to the body and often carries more meaning. What interested me was how something quite small can hold a lot of emotion, or even a sense of history. That became the starting point for ENNUI Atelier. I wanted to create pieces that are not just decorative, but something you return to and wear over time.
Tell us about the background to the name - ENNUI?
“ENNUI means boredom in French, which is quite deliberate. The brand started as a reaction to repetition. The idea that getting dressed, or choosing jewellery, can easily become routine. I was interested in creating pieces that interrupt that feeling in a subtle way."
What occasions do you mostly design jewellery for?
"We do not really design for occasions. We design for everyday life. Pieces that you wear often, that you combine over time, and that slowly become part of how you express yourself."

How do you think about longevity in your process?
"We avoid mass production and think a lot about how pieces live with the person wearing them. Not just how they look when they are new."
What part of creating jewellery is your favourite?
"The beginning, when it is still a bit unclear. It often starts with something that has nothing to do with jewellery. It can be architecture, a historical reference, or just a certain feeling. The process of translating that into something wearable is what I find most interestingI also like the moment when the piece leaves the studio. When someone else wears it in their own way. That is when it becomes something more personal, and often more interesting than what I originally imagined
